Martin Thalken - Chairman & CEO

As Chairman and CEO, Martin Thalken brings more than three decades of experience in multiple leadership positions. Before founding Protégé I in 2004, Protégé II in 2008, and Protégé III in 2013, he was Acquisitions and Planning Team Leader at Newfield Exploration. From 1992-2003, he served as Vice President – Acquisitions, Acquisitions Technical Manager, and an Acquisitions Engineer at Vintage Petroleum, Inc. He worked at Enron Oil and Gas Company as Senior Production Engineer from 1990-1991, and Exxon Company USA from 1983-1990, serving in various engineering and supervisory positions. Martin has a B.S. Degree with Distinction in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Kansas.

Dave Boncaldo - President & Chief Operating Officer

Prior to joining the company, Dave Boncaldo served Laredo Petroleum as Vice President of Operations. From 1998-2009, he was employed by Samson Resources and served in numerous roles, including: General Manager – East Texas division, Asset Team Manager, Operations Manager and various District Engineer positions. Dave worked at Torch Energy from 1992-1996, as well as BP America and its subsidiary Tex/Con Oil & Gas from 1986-1992. He graduated in 1986 with a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering from Marietta College.

Danny Rathan - CFO & Vice President, Business Development

Before joining Protégé, Danny Rathan was a Managing Director in the Investment Banking division at Tudor, Pickering, Holt and Co. from 2008-2014. As Managing Director, he spoke at numerous conferences and wrote articles on Capital and M&A trends in resource plays. Danny also served as financial advisor to Protégé II in 2012 during its sale process. From 1997-2008, he worked at LL&E, Burlington Resources and ConocoPhillips, focused on the commercial evaluations of new upstream opportunities worldwide. He worked in South Africa from 1984-1997, in both mining and later in the development of a large offshore gas field. Danny earned his B.Sc with Honors degree from the University of Plymouth and his Master’s degree from Camborne School of Mines, both in the UK.

Bob Haydock - Vice President, Engineering

Prior to joining Protégé, Bob Haydock served as Manager of Acquisitions and Divestitures at WPX Energy. From 1998-2005, he served Vintage Petroleum in various technical roles in Acquisitions and New Ventures, focusing mainly on major basins in North America. He worked in the banking industry from 1993-1998, evaluating assets worldwide for First Chicago NBD. From 1988-1993, Bob worked at Unocal as an Asset Team Lead and Reservoir Engineer focused on the Michigan and Illinois Basins. Bob graduated from University of Oklahoma in 1986 with a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering and from the University of Tulsa's Elite program in 2009. He is also a Professional Engineer registered in the state of Michigan.

Morris Hall - Vice President, Geosciences

Morris Hall joined us at Protégé III after serving WPX Energy as Geoscience Manager of the Appalachian asset. Morris has 33 years of experience working in various technical and managerial positions for Exxon, EOG, Devon, Williams and Mozark. As a geologist and geophysicist, he has worked in most onshore and offshore basins in North America and West Africa. Morris earned his B.S. in Geology from Missouri State and M.S. in Geology from the University of Missouri.
Tarah Fagen - Vice President, Land Tarah Angelidis, Vice President - Land

Tarah Fagen - Vice President, Land

Before joining Protégé, Tarah Fagen was employed as Land Team Lead at Newfield Exploration. From 2006-2012, she worked at XTO Energy Inc. as Senior Landman. Tarah has held various other land positions at Chesapeake Energy and Samson Resources and has worked numerous basins in the US. She earned her B.B.A. Degree in Energy Management and Finance from the University of Oklahoma.
